Community Safety and Policing

We clearly do not have enough policing in the village. We used to have a police station and our own team of police. We regularly hear of anti-social behaviour, dangerous driving and dangerous parking, but without any police presence in the village there's little that can be done to counter it.

A new scheme has been announced recently whereby we can take on a fully trained Special Constable, for a maximum cost of £1,000 a year to the Parish Council. The Parish Council are currently looking into this, and they have support from our District Councillors (Jo McPherson has offered to contribute towards the cost from her personal Councillor's allowance). However this is yet to be put to the vote and it is uncertain as to whether it will be adopted by them.

If I am in the Parish Council when this is brought to the table I will DEFINITELY be voting for it.

I fully support innitiatives such as the neighbourhood watch scheme and feel that by going out, chatting to neighbours, looking out for each other, using social media etc. we could make a big difference to levels of crime, and also help to make people feel safer.
